Ukrainian reported advances with forces continuing to engage in intense fighting along the frontline, as European Union leaders discuss giving more military support for the war-battered nation.
Kyiv’s military was pressing ahead in southern Ukraine toward Melitopol and Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov, as well as in embattled Bakhmut in the east, in “a heavy duel,” Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said on Telegram. Russian forces were launching counterattacks in the east, she said.
EU leaders meeting in Brussels were finalizing a draft statement highlighting the 27-member bloc’s support for Ukraine, including training Ukrainian troops and sending 1 million artillery shells. Members states were seeking clarity from France, which had formulated the draft wording, an EU diplomat said.
