CARPINTERIA, CALIFORNIA: Amid Kevin Costner and his estranged wife Christine Baumgartner's divorce proceedings, recently released court records provide some insight into the opulent lifestyle that the pair was leading before things went south. The court documents reveal how the renowned actor spends his roughly $20 million annual salary. In addition, as per the court documents filed in Costner's current divorce procedures, Baumgartner is requesting $248,000 per month in support.
The Oscar winner, whose net worth is around $250 million, has claimed in court that he is currently "homeless" despite having the option of an $80 million Aspen mansion, Dunbar Ranch, as a base. On the other hand, Baumgartner asserts that Costner is seeking to make their three children homeless by forcing her to leave the California property that served as their place of residence, as per reports.
Private jet, gifts, household help, club dues, and many more
In her filing, Baumgartner detailed how they led a jet-set lifestyle that included private planes, many large residences, opulent trips to the Caribbean and Hawaii, country club memberships, private cooks, and prestigious schools for their children.
Baumgartner, 49, claimed in legal documents obtained by Us Weekly that Costner, 68, earns an estimated $1,537,000 each month from his varied acting and directing roles. She listed the family's monthly expenses, which Costner had been covering, as exceeding $550,000 and said she lacked the money to support the family's present standard of living.
According to the paperwork, the couple, who are parents to sons Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 13, shared a private jet among their pricey expenditures. Over the past year, the ex-couple reportedly spent whooping $238,000 on medical expenses and $830,000 on gifts. Meanwhile, a ranch manager and gardeners received close to $100,000. Baumgartner also charged $222,000 to her credit card, with the two of them shelling out about $22,000 for spa services, $34,000 for golf and club dues, and $84,000 for housekeeping.
In addition, $64,000 was spent on household cleaning, $12,000 was spent on hunting permits, more than $41,000 was spent on food, and about $13,000 was spent on a personal trainer, revealed court reports. Baumgartner claimed that the 'Yellowstone' actor has maintained a number of residences.
Moreover, roughly $2 million was spent on home expenses for their Aspen property, while $1.2 million was allocated for their beach house in Santa Barbara, which comprises a main house, two additional residences, and a property in Carpinteria.
'She [Christine] does not have sufficient funding'
According to OK!, the actor demanded that Baumgartner leave their joint house in accordance with a prenuptial agreement. Even when Costner gave her $1 million to purchase a new home, Baumgartner asserted that she did not have the money to relocate, citing their family's startling spending patterns from the previous year as proof.
According to the mother of three, Costner earned $19.5 million in 2022, covered their entire $11.9 million in household costs, and left them with a net income of $7.5 million, per her declaration, obtained by Insider. Baumgartner consequently asked for $248,444 in child support payments per month. The paperwork stated, "[Christine] understands that at some point in the future, she and the children will have to move out of the family home. She cannot do so at this early stage of the case because she does not have sufficient funding to secure housing that will ensure the children can maintain similar standards of living in the parties’ respective homes."
'I cannot do so without support from Kevin'
According to Baumgartner's June 16 declaration, "Our marital lifestyle, including that of the children, was consistent with Kevin's long-term exceedingly high income." She continued: "My primary goal is to make sure that the children continue to thrive, and when they are with me, to live in a home and lifestyle that is at least somewhat comparable to that of their father." Baumgartner stated in her filing that Costner "continued to pay all of" their bills after their split.
Baumgartner, a handbag designer, claimed to be unemployed and spent her days looking after their children along with running their homes, projects, and personnel. She said that she has no other assets or income except from the $50,000 in the bank. She acknowledged that Costner put $1.4 million into a bank account he made in her name, but she expressed fear that accepting the money might interfere with her ability to pursue additional support, per her declaration. Baumgartner further added, "I have been willing to move out of the family home, but I cannot do so without support from Kevin."
